ThermoScreen Infrared Fever Screening System

Screening Site Example

A ThermoScreen TS 320 system is placed at the entrance of a hospital to screen patients and visitors upon entering the building as shown in the figure below.  When properly trained, a single ThermoScreen station can effectively screen over 1,000 subjects per hour.

Screening Area Setup

The screening area is climate controlled, the temperature varies from 20 to 24°C (68 to 75.2°F), and the relative humidity is approximately 70%.  The screening area has diffuse ambient daylight and soft fluorescent lights.  At times, outside air enters the building through the entrance doors but the camera and screening area are blocked from any draft using curtain barriers.

During setup, the screening line mat is placed 1.8m (6 feet) away from the camera for subjects to stand on while being screened.  The camera is carefully aimed in order to screen subjects with height from 81 to 198cm (2 ’8” to 6’ 6”).  Infants and small children can be held by their parents while they are screened.

Operator Training

A hands-on training session is conducted for all operators.  Operators are trained to operate the ThermoScreen software.  The ThermoScreen User Manual and Quick Start/Troubleshooting Cards are kept on hand at the screening station for operator reference.  A screening station logbook is used by operators to record ThermoScreen usage and personnel on duty.

The Screening Process

With the aid of barricades, subjects are channeled into a single file line when they enter the building and each subject is screened individually.  Subjects are notified to remove eyeglasses (contact lenses do not need to be removed), stand still, and to look at the camera.  Subjects can be notified verbally by the operators or by using carefully positioned signs.  Screening of each subject requires approximately three seconds.

The operator operates the ThermoScreen system, directs subjects into and out of the screening area, and directs feverish subjects to the nurse station for further evaluation.
